Material Info
57 stone
Recycled concrete that has been crushed into angular, irregular pieces of 1” or smaller. In addition to being an aggregate for concrete, 57 stone is used for pipe bedding and drainage, as well as base and finish material for driveways, sidewalks and parking lots.
paver base
Recycled concrete that has been crushed into angular, irregular pieces of 3/8” or smaller. Paver base is used as a foundational material under paver driveways, walkways and patios. It is also referred to as paver fines.
road base
Recycled concrete that has been crushed to pieces 2” or smaller. Road base is used as a foundation material for road construction, parking lots and driveways. It is also known as crushcrete.
RipRap
Recycled concrete that has been crushed to larger sizes, anywhere from 4” to over 2’, crushed to order to suit the project. Riprap is commonly used along shorelines, bulkheads, and bridge and roadway foundations to protect from erosion.
Mason Sand
In comparison, mason sand is crushed more finely, with more uniform granules, than traditional concrete sand. Its primary use is finishing paver patios, driveways and walkways, though it is often substituted for beach sand, sand box sand, and fill material.
Topsoil
Topsoil is soil that has been screened to remove larger inclusions, but maintains the necessary organic nutrients to provide a fertile environment for growing plant life.
sand
Small grains of rock ground more finely than gravel. Sand provides bulk and strength to concrete, and is used as fill material for roadways, building pads, bridges and subdivisions.
oversize
Recycled concrete that has been crushed and screened into coarse pieces between 2-4”. Oversize aggregate is commonly used as backfill, or placed at jobsite entrances to remove mud from trucks entering and existing a job site.
fill dirt
Fill dirt is a mixture of sand, rock and clay. It lacks the organic matter present in topsoil, so is often used underneath topsoil as a more stable filler material.
Clay
Natural clay, with its plastic and impervious qualities, is often used to stabilize roads and line ponds. It is composed of fine-grained minerals, generally silicates.
Fines
A very small, dust-like aggregate consisting of particles ¼” or smaller. Fines are used in projects requiring a smooth, compact surface. Fines are ideal underneath pavers, as paths, or even for athletic infield material.
Crushed Asphalt
Crushed asphalt, also known as asphalt millings, is recycled asphalt that has been crushed and screened into gravel of 1 1/2” or less.
